Mapleton Wood Products was incorporated in 1978 in Mapleton, Wisconsin. Our first product line was Oak Bunk Beds and our business moved to Thorp, Wisconsin in June 1979. In those years we were located on a converted dairy farm in the township of Reseburg, southeast of Thorp. Our product line was expanded to include Wall Units, Entertainment Centers, and Gun Cabinets, . In 1990, Bunk Beds, along with the remaining youth bedroom pieces, were dropped from our line.
Mapleton continued to expand during the 1980's and soon we were at maximum capacity for the rural Thorp operation. In 1987, working with the city of Thorp, a building program was set in place that enabled us to move to our present location at 508 E. Grant Street. The move was completed in February, 1988.
It became obvious in 1994 that we had once again outgrown the physical plant and in June of that year an addition to the Thorp facility was begun. This project was finalized in December 1994 with the completion of a 75' x 100' addition, which included a break room and additional mezzanine storage. In the spring of 2000, we began work on another addition which facilitated a much needed reorganization of production flow through the plant. A 3 million BTU sawdust burning boiler system was also installed at this time to meet the additional heating needs of the expanded plant. This 125' x 140' addition and accompanying upgrades were completed in December of 2000.
Mapleton sells its products wholesale to furniture stores. Currently we have over 1,000 active furniture dealers in 37 states. Our production begins with rough lumber and goes to finishing and final assembly. Deliveries are made by Mapleton trucks.
